Air Leaks

Project Overview

Leaks in pressurized air and gas systems lead to substantial energy waste, environmental pollution, and operating expenses.

Traditional methods of detecting leaks are labor-intensive and sensitive to ambient noise.

This project aims to automate the leak detection process with a network of ultrasonic vibration sensors.

The sensors will be placed on either side of a suspected leak, allowing its location to be precisely determined.

Long-Term Goals

  • Test sensors against competing models
  • Create a sensor network and a GUI for control
  • Reduce energy wasted in industrial facilities

Skills You Will Develop

  • Signal processing
  • Embedded and application programming
  • Facilities monitoring and data collection

Quick Points

  • The majority of industrial facilities use compressed air systems in some way.
  • Our sensors will help automate the labor-intensive leak-detection process.
